Incorporated in 1897 in the name of Delta Jute Mills Company (DJML), which was subsequently changed to Budge Budge Amalgamated Mills (BBAML) and further changed to Cheviot Company (CCL). Products-:

A promotional bag can be embroidered, embossed, imprinted or silk screened with promotional campaign logo or client’s emblem. Many bags can act as a corporate gift and the company provides bags that suit all clients’ needs and budget requirement. The company has created a line of fashion jute bags. It has introduced utility bags for multiple uses in different shapes & sizes. These bags are used for miscellaneous purpose, be it for gift, or for carrying stuffs or as gardening bag or for packaging material.

The company manufactures and supply a range of hessian cloth produced from jute with single warp and weft in rolls. Hessian bags are known for their strength to provide excellent packaging and long service life durability. Hessian jute bags are used in various textile and non-textile industries. It also offers laminated / non-laminated / bleached / natural bags as per the requirements of customers.

The company manufactures jute sacking bags which is mainly used to pack food grains and sugar. Conventional sacking bags used as packing material of food grains, sugar and other food products are packed in weight range from 50 to 100 kg. Its highly sophisticated sack feeding & sack cutting machine can give various shape and size as per the required specification of the buyer.
Jute decorative fabrics is manufactured using superior quality material having high versatility nature of fiber which enables it to be combined with any other material to come up with a new product. These jute decorative fibers have high tensile strength and are resistant to heat and fire. It has a silky luster and ensures immense designer potentials. The company offers covering fabrics; stuffing’s and other materials that are used in upholstering which is collectively termed as upholstery. Blended jute upholstery helps in creating and setting an ethnology-chic yet casually contemporary look to it.

V. Kanoria having 40 years of vast experience in successfully handling Jute, Tea and Leather Industries.
Sector analysis-:
Government of India is proposing a ban on single use plastic products. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, delivering his 2019 Independence Day speech at Red Fort, pitched for freedom for India from single-use plastic. The Centre is likely to identify as many as eight articles as ‘single-use plastic’ items that will be discontinued on a priority basis. Government aims to phase out single-use plastic by 2022 amid strong opposition from plastic industry. Many state government have announced single use plastic ban, while various government departments are also promoting use of non-plastic products such as jute.
Regular flow of government orders-: There has been regular flow of Government orders keeping good domestic demand. Revenue from government agencies increased to Rs 214.65 crore in 2018-19 (56.03% of total revenue) rising from Rs 186.76 crore (50.96% of total revenue) in 2017-18 on sale of jute bags within India.
The jute industry is predominantly dependent on Government sector which purchases jute bags of value of more than Rs 7500 crore every year for packing foodgrains. This is done in order to sustain the core demand for the jute sector and to support the livelihood of the workers and farmers dependent on the sector. The government has been making concerted efforts for the development of jute sector; increasing the quality and productivity of raw jute, diversification of jute sector and also boosting and sustaining demand for jute products.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on 27 November 2019 has accorded its approval for mandatory packaging of foodgrains and sugar in jute material for the Jute Year 2019-20.
The Government has retained the scope of mandatory packaging norms under the Jute Packaging Material (JPM) Act, 1987 as per last year. The decision of the Cabinet mandates that 100% of the food grains and 20% of the sugar shall be mandatorily packed in diversified jute bags.
With a view to support diversification of jute sector, the National Jute Board has collaborated with National Institute of Design and a Jute Design Cell has been opened at Gandhinagar. Furthermore with a view to boost demand in the jute sector, Government of India has imposed Definitive Anti-Dumping Duty on import of jute goods from Bangladesh and Nepal with effect from 5th January, 2017.
Buyback-:
In 2017 Cheviot Company had brought back 2 lakh fully paid up shares for a total amount of Rs 30 crore at a price of Rs 1500 Per share which was 13.7 more than its price of Rs1319.
Bonus-:
Cheviot company had issued bonus shares in the ratio of 1 fully-paid up bonus ordinary share for every existing 2 fully paid-up ordinary shares of face value of Rs 10 each
Financials-:
Company has registered 25% growth in sales of Rs 229.29 crore posting 13% growth in net profit to Rs 29.07 crore for the half year ended September 2019.

On a quarterly basis the company has registered 28% growth in sales to Rs 123.37 crore posting net profit growth of 35% to Rs 17.08 crore.

Prospects-:
With digitization and automation, the company is hopeful to penetrate in new markets for sale of jute products in coming years. Plastic bags are being banned around the Globe. Jute Goods, being natural bio-degradable fibre with long standing end use application are preferred by environment conscious end users. Different incentive schemes of Government of India to promote jute goods and varied use of jute goods like in floor coverings, jute geo-textiles, shopping bags will boost the demand of jute goods.
Outlook-:
Jute crop for the season 2019-20 is expected to be better in the light of favourable weather conditions and initial encouraging reports of higher sowing. Accordingly, availability of raw jute is expected to be higher. Consequently, the prices of raw jute are expected to remain stable or may come down from present level. There has been regular flow of Government orders keeping good domestic demand. On export front, we are exploring to increase our customer base in Hessian and consumer products. Considering overall market scenario, demand of jute goods will remain buoyant. Looking to the overall market conditions, the outlook for the current year appears to be promising.
